Smart Lighting and Amazon Alexa

by - January 27, 2018

We got an echo dot last year at my husband's Christmas party. We were pretty excited, we had been wanting to get one. Up until recently we haven't used her for anything more than an alarm clock and timer really. I've been thinking about getting some smart devices to use with our Alexa, but there are so many to choose from and they can cost a pretty penny. I try to be frugal so when I see a light bulb for 20+ dollars it's really hard for me to want to buy it.  I've been trying to get a light for reviewing and I was finally given this one for reviewing.

This light bulb looks like any other LED light bulb, it is a bit bigger so it may not fit in all lamps. It barely fits in my bedroom lamp. I have to admit that it took me a few days to figure out how to get this light working. I think of myself as a pretty techie person but I've never really dealt with connecting anything to Alexa, and I really didn't take the time to read the instructions. So once I sat down and really read the instructions and then finally realized I had never actually connected Alexa to my cell phone, I kicked myself for having such a difficult time. It really is a simple process.

This is what you will see once you click on your light in the app. I named my light "light" so that it would show up that way in the Alexa app and I would be able to say Alexa turn the "light" on.  You can also alter the name in the Alexa app but this was just easier. So as you can see it has white, color, scene, and timer options. I haven't really tried the timer option, I do have it set to go off at 11:30 but we usually have our lights off by then. I like the scene choice they give you 6 scenes, some are just a color that may be dimmed. I love the gorgeous scene since it's flashing different colors. My kids love it too because then we have a little dance party in the room.

Here is what you see when you click on colors. You get a color wheel and a few options. Sometimes I will mess with my husband and change the light colors while he's in the room watching t.v. You can also ask Alexa to change the light colors, so my youngest two love doing that A LOT.  The light is really fun to use with Alexa. No more fumbling around in the dark.

You can find this light bulb here:

I'm really glad that I got this light and it is really worth the investment. I plan on adding a few more for lights that get left on a lot. The best part of this light is that my husband and I no longer fight over who will get up and turn off the light.
